"Entrants create a photo, video or blog that showcases why you use a PC and/or should be a Windows Brand Ambassador. The 200 highest scoring entries will advance to the semi-final round where the Windows Social Media Team will choose 40 Semi-Finalists as Windows Brand Ambassadors. During the next 8 weeks, Windows Brand Ambassadors will receive weekly video challenges from Microsoft. Each week’s challenge will highlight a different way our Windows Brand Ambassadors use Windows every day." – Alan Cheslow |

Are you serious? Brand Ambassadors are not ambassadors if they're just trying to score free stuff and show up on the Microsoft website. That's just a spokesperson for Microsoft's mission to be 'transparent' and 'authentic'. A real ambassador – or evangelist, per se, will talk about Windows long after their two minutes of internet 'celebrity' are up. – Mona Nomura |

I'm thinking the 8 weeks of challenges will insure the winner is focused on the Windows brand, and will–at least for the duration of the contest–be an "evangelist" for Microsoft. With the prize being a two day trip, PC, and camera.. To me, the company is exchanging 8 weeks of advertising for a prize package commensurate with the level of commitment required of the contestants. A "real ambassador", as I'm thinking Mona has in mind, would undoubtedly be paid a bigger sum for a longer period of representation of Microsoft. It isn't really "two minutes of internet 'celebrity'" for the contestants (they will SOON be forgotten!) as much as it is 8 weeks of passionate advertisement for Windows brand products. IMHO. – Signaleade |
